At Black Tie Digital Marketing we want to help you incorporate all the Internet Marketing tools possible so you can help your business grow. Pinterest, the social photo sharing website, launched in March of 2010 and has grown to an estimated 10.4 million users.
Pinterest was huge when it first launched and although the amount people use it has declined, it’s still fairly large. Every time I log on to Pinterest or Facebook I see all the things people are pinning. Even though people love Pinterest, is it an effective marketing tool? I think that depends on your business and what your company sells. A lot of the things the people I follow are pinning are future wedding dresses or homes they want. Of course, there are also the designer outfits that everyone wishes they could afford.
According to a report on TechLand.com, “Pinterest user base is 80% female. Some reports suggest that that number is closer to 97%. Over half of those women are between the ages of 25-44 who earn approximately $25-$75K a year.” This means that if your business is something that appeals to women and is moderately affordable there is a chance that using Pinterest will lead to more sales. I have definitely bought things that I have seen on Pinterest as long as they are in my price range. Of course, I’m going to pin the $2,495 Jimmy Choo’s that I will always covet but unless I win the lottery I’m never going to be able to buy them.
So should you put your business out there on Pinterest? The answer is: it depends. If you believe that people will find your products useful and they are likely to purchase them, then I say go for it. But if you offer a specific service that is local, then Pinterest probably isn’t the most effective marketing tool for you.
