Our team at Black Tie Digital Marketing reported a few months ago about the Penguin and Panda Updates that Google has been utilizing. Well in the next few months, the anti-spam “Penguin Update” will have more jolts as Google continues to adjust it. In contrast, updates to the Panda algorithm aimed at low-quality pages are now so minor they are unlikely to be noticed when they roll out monthly.
Search Engine Land reported that, “Google is saying that Penguin isn’t a penalty but rather an adjustment that simply doesn’t let sites get rewarded for spam as much as they did in the past. In particular, some linking activities that generated credit in the past seem to have been taken out.” Because the Penguin algorithm is newer than the Panda update, it will have to adjust over time until it smooths out like the Panda update did.
Google is still in the early stages of the Penguin update. They are incorporating new signals and working to improve the algorithm. “Since they are still working on the update, the next few Penguin updates will take longer, incorporate additional signals, and will have a more noticeable impact,” Search Engine Land said. So people should not expect data refreshes for Penguin quite yet.
